“THREATENED”

When tamed the Native Colonial Horses are used for pleasure and endurance riding;  some Horses are gaited; most of the Horses are very people oriented.  These beautiful Native Horses in the "threatened" division via Heritage Livestock Conservancy Breeds  - Colonial Horses are "threatened" Breeds aka Strains:  Baca-Chica,  Choctaw,  Santa Cruz,  Sulphur and the  Wilbur-Cruce.

The Sulphur Springs Horse Registry Inc aka SSHR and the American Sulphur Horse Association aka ASHA have joined forces in our efforts to save the Sulphur Horses from extinction.... The SSHR will be doing all of the registrations of the horses so that the ASHA can focus our efforts on research and public awareness to try to gain all of the help and support of the public as possible and by doing so we can hopefully accomplish our goals.

We hope that by combining our efforts into one, we will be able to accomplish more.  The American Sulphur Horse Association was formed in 2003 in efforts to preserve, promote and protect this beautiful native Utah Wild Horse.  The Sulphur Horse an American Treasure.

The Endangered Species Act is administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.Under the ESA, species may be listed as either endangered or threatened. “THREATENED” means a species is likely to become endangered within the foreseeable future.  “ENDANGERED” means a species is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range.

ALL SPECIES OF plants and ANIMALS, except pest insects, ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE LISTING AS ENDANGERED OR THREATENED.  When Congress passed the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in 1973, it recognized that our rich natural heritage is of “esthetic, ecological, educational, recreational and scientific value to our Nation and its people.”

It further expressed concern that many of our nation’s NATIVE plants and ANIMALS were in danger of becoming extinct. The purpose of the ESA is to PROTECT and RECOVER imperiled species and the ecosystems upon which they depend. For the purposes of the ESA, Congress defined species to include subspecies, varieties and for vertebrates, distinct population segments.

Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act requires Federal agencies to insure that any action authorized, funded or carried out by them is not likely to jeopardize the continued existence of listed species or
modify their critical habitat.
